6/2/2011 Response

Module 4 is about the writing process.  Included in the writing process are planning, writing, and revising; though a writer does not have to use all three every time he or she writes.  Some advice given on how to spend your time as a writer is to only use about a third of the time actually writing things down.  In order to plan you are encouraged to brainstorm, freewrite, and cluster by writing down your topic and ideas all on one sheet of paper.  Module 5 is all about the looks/ design of documents, slides, and screens you create.  One of the most important things to do is to use white space to separate materials and emphasize certain points. Some ways to do this are by using headings, lists, and varying paragraph lengths.  It is important to think about design the entire time you are creating your document and to make sure to test it on your audience.
A useful aspect from module 4 is the advice on how to overcome writer’s block and procrastination.  I see the most important parts of overcoming procrastination as setting a regular time to write and developing a ritual you use when writing.  A useful tip from module 5 is to make sure when you using a list that all the items are parallel and in the same structure.  It relaly helps the look of the document.
